Archives Committee

The Archives Committee of the Nineteenth Street Baptist Church was established in 1983, under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Jerry A. Moore Jr. Ms. Lois Dozier, the church historian, served as chair from 1983 until her demise in 1998.

The work of the committee is to collect, preserve, and display materials relating to the history of the church and to maintain the cases in the Wyatt A. James Fellowship Hall, exhibiting the same. It is the intent of the Archives Committee to make the material a permanent and complete record of the church, adequately housed, preserved, and cared for at the church.

Items related to the church have been donated by church members and by friends in the community who have an interest in our church, as well as by some of the clubs of the church.

To date, Archives has obtained church bulletins dating back to 1944, old church anniversary programs, and photographs of auxiliaries, as well as the history of all clubs, past and present, and audio and cassette tapes of church activities. Any event that takes place in our church is history and it is hoped that one day the church will have a designated room where all of our historical items can be displayed.

Rosemary Massey, committee chair, can be reached through the church office, 202-829-2773, or archives@19thstreetbc.org.
