Senior Ministry

The Senior Ministry launched its mission to serve on January 18, 2019. The ministry’s mission is to enhance the spiritual, physical, and emotional growth of seniors 60 years and beyond through stimulating activities and programs.

Throughout the global COVID-19 pandemic, the ministry supported its mission through virtual programs such as:

  • DC Department of Aging and Community Living (DACL) presentations and workshops
  • “Your Smile Matters” demonstration by Lynn D. Locklear, DDS
  • Zoom technology workshops
  • How to “goDigital” with DC Public Library (DCPL)
  • Spanish language lessons through DCPL digital resources
  • 6-week “Straight Up Stretch” class presented by Dance Intensified
  • 6- and 8-week “Gentle Yoga” series with Three and a Half Acres Yoga (THAY)
  • “Getting to Know You” and “Gratitude” discussion groups

Additionally, through the years, members of the Senior Ministry have attended various programs presented by the Washington, D.C., Mayor’s Office, such as the Older Americans Breakfast, the Annual Senior Symposium, and Mayor Muriel Bowser’s Annual Senior Holiday Celebration.

If you are interested in participating or volunteering, or if you have program ideas for the Senior Ministry, please contact us at seniorministry@19thstreetbc.org.
