Christian Mite Society

Christian Mite Society, 2018

The Christian Mite Society’s mission is to beautify the church and keep intact its general appearance. Specifically, it is responsible for the care of both pulpits as well as the furnishings in the pastor’s study.

The ministry was founded during the pastorate of the Rev. D.W. Anderson on November 10, 1867 and has served the church in many ways over its long history. From its beginning, the Christian Mite Society has done small “mite” projects at the church. These have included furnishing baptismal garments for the pastor, Bibles for the pulpits and pews, and hymnals for the pews, the fellowship hall, and the chapel. In addition, the ministry has furnished and decorated the pastor’s study and outer office, contributed to the public address system, provided and reupholstered the chairs in the pulpit, provided new Communion tablecloths, and installed protective railings around the pulpit. In 2014, the Flower Committee became a part of the Christian Mite Society with the responsibility for floral arrangements in the sanctuary.

Because the Christian Mite Society was founded on November 10, the day before the United States marks Veterans Day, the ministry has incorporated recognition of veterans during its annual anniversary celebration in recent years. In addition, the ministry continues to work with many other church organizations to support projects around the church.
