The deacons of Nineteenth Street Baptist Church serve as spiritual leaders, assisting the pastor and promoting the evangelistic and missionary programs of the church.

Deacons, as described in the church constitution, “shall be dedicated Christians in good standing at all times. Their lives, deportment and reputation shall be in accord with the New Testament requirements for the office of Deacon. They are to be wise, full of the Holy Spirit, and well thought of by everyone.” (Acts 6: 1-4)

The board’s duties include:

Supporting the pastor as they lead the congregation
Considering applications for church membership
Cooperating with the pastor in providing the pulpit supply
Leading prayer meetings
Visiting and assisting sick and needy members
Serving Communion
Overseeing ministries and auxiliaries
Authorizing church programs and use of church facilities
